The 21st Century has more populations migrating into cities and towns, while leaving behind inherited skills of water management. Comparatively, without signing a death warrant for water management, and driving away possible investments, it is not an understatement that past generations have always had ways of water harvesting, it is not new, but rather just an upgrade and more conscious on health and infrastructure.
Today, South Africa is a water scarce country with serious shortages by 2020. South Africa depends on rainfall for much of its water supply. We as a country need to be prudent in the management of this resource since the primary source is rainfall which cannot be guaranteed by decree. Averting what is a potentially devastating crisis for the country. All South Africans have a right and responsibility to secure and safeguard this crucial resource.
In addition, going GREEN has financial benefits as well as being a long term solution to future water challenges. In 21st Century South Africa, going green, means meeting challenges before nature avenges her seasonal wrath, thus allowing us to save more on clean drinking water for future generations.
Albeit, it is no longer just a government concern but should be viewed as a citizens concern.
